In a police statement read at his trial, footballer Adam Johnson said he was "aware" that a fan he has admitted grooming was 15.
Johnson, 28, denies two charges of sexual activity with a child under 16.The former Sunderland player has admitted one similar charge and one of grooming, for which he will be sentenced after the trial.
In the statement read out at Bradford Crown Court, Johnson said: "I accept the stupidity of my actions. I have no excuse. I was aware by then of her age."
He admitted kissing the girl, who can not be named for legal reasons, but insisted it went no further.
"I recognise my behaviour was wholly unacceptable", he said.
He apologised "wholeheartedly and unreservedly" to the girl for his behaviour.
Trail still in progress...
