Mixed Reactions In Abuja On The Proposed Ban Of Using Hijab By Buhari

Presdent Mohammadu Buhari and a team of journalists during the maiden edition of the presidential media chat

Buhari explained that the move would be necessitated if the recent development in some parts of the country where suspected female Boko Haram members conceal explosives under this piece of clothing which they detonate in public places like mosques, churches, motor parks and market places persist.
While some resident of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja, who spoke with Naij.com described the move as a welcome development, others maintained that it as “irrelevant”, adding that it would not end the insecurity situation in the country.
A civil servant who simply gave his name as Ahmad believed the president was misunderstood by the media. He argued that the president would never ban the use of hijab in the country.
In his words: “Buhari will never ban hijab. The media just tried to paint him black so that the Muslims will see him as an enemy to them. He will ban it in case of necessity and in those affected places.”
Ifeanyi, an accountant, welcomed the idea but however advised the president to exercise some level of caution considering the sensitivity of the issue.
Another resident, Fatima who spoke in Hausa language said the hijab serves as protection for her.
